Ever since Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund completed the purchase of Newcastle United last month, Marcelo Brozović has been regularly linked to the Tyneside club.
The midfielder’s contract at Inter Milan will expire at the end of the current season and he’ not looked close to signing an extension so far.
According to Inter Live, the Nerazzurri’s priority is to secure his long-term future and their goal is to seal it by offering him an annual salary of €5m, a figure likely to be after tax.
However, the Serie A winners are struggling to tie the 28-year-old down to a new deal and that’s mainly because of what they are willing to offer and the interest from elsewhere.
It’s claimed the Magpies and a few other clubs are ‘crazy’ about the Croatia international.
Simone Inzaghi’s side fear they could lose the player for nothing next summer, which is why they have identified Bologna’s Jerdy Schouten as his potential successor.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato have a short report that states Newcastle ‘dream’ of signing Brozović.
The Premier League side are one of three clubs who are ‘trying to steal’ Brozović away from Inter. It’s not made clear whether it’s for January or next summer.
