Newcastle United attempted to sign Pierre Emile Højbjerg late in the summer transfer window. The player rejected the deal but is in line for another big January move.

In the summer, it was evident Marseille were open to the Dane’s sale. In fact, they were pushing for it and had an agreement with the Magpies.

But when the move to Newcastle United was all but done, Højbjerg himself pulled the plug on it. This left Marseille unhappy, and they stripped the midfielder of the captaincy.

Now, there are signs he could be on his way out of the French side in the next few months anyway.

Milan have ‘real chance’ at deal

SpazioMilan note that the ex-Tottenham man is now pondering over a transfer himself. He has a positive stance about a move to AC Milan, where Ruben Amorim is a clear fan of his profile.

The Portuguese coach has been following his progress for a while and sees Højbjerg as a very good fit for his system.

Amorim had supported the idea of a move even in the summer. Newcastle United had managed to reach an agreement, which came as a blow to Milan. Now, the Rossoneri can explore a January move.

Further, the report points out that St James’ Park was an ‘unwelcome destination’ for the Denmark man. He sees Milan as a much more appealing prospect, with Marseille still in need of selling players to balance their books.

Decision could benefit player

Usually, Amorim is very set in his demands over players. If he likes a player’s profile, there is a big chance he ends up doing quite well under him. This has proved true for other Milan players already this season.

At the San Siro, he could be a dressing room leader who will set the tone for the side. Luka Modric hasn’t exactly been a fit for the high-energy style but the 31-year-old offers more athletic ability out of possession.
