On New Year’s Eve, we covered claims from Brazil which stated Atlético Mineiro are one of the clubs interested in West Ham United’s Luizão.

The Brazilian club have appointed Cuca as their new manager, and he’s given approval to sign the 22-year-old.

That’s according to O Tempo, who state the player wants to leave West Ham and return to Brazil in the winter market.

It’s claimed the defender has given preference to Atlético Mineiro and is ‘awaiting an offer’ to join them.

The Brazilian club have already made initial contact to find out the conditions needed to sign him.

West Ham initially wanted a sale but are willing to sanction a loan move as long as the centre-back’s full salary is covered.

UOL state Atlético Mineiro have opened talks with the Hammers, after receiving Cuca’s approval.

Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing and Atlético Mineiro are considering making a formal proposal to Julen Lopetegui’s side, who are awaiting offers.

Luizão hasn’t made an appearance for West Ham’s first team since joining them from São Paulo in January 2023 and is keen on returning to Brazil in this window.
