Last summer, Newcastle United and Aston Villa were linked with a move for Lazio’s Matteo Guendouzi.
It seems as if the Magpies’ interest in the Frenchman has not gone away and they will look at him as a key target in the upcoming summer transfer window as well.
Tuttomercatoweb’s Marco Conterio has reported that even if Newcastle United do not lose Sandro Tonali in the summer, they will still look to add more depth to their midfield.
Guendouzi is ‘among the very first names’ on their shortlist and the belief is that the ex-Arsenal player can add much-needed Champions League quality to the side.
Eddie Howe likes the 26-year-old ‘a lot’ and rates him from a technical and tactical point of view. This is a key reason behind Newcastle United’s interest in Guendouzi, who is now into his second season at Lazio.
So far this season, he’s played 42 times in all competitions and has one goal and three assists in Serie A.
The Roman club’s price tag for the France international is not known but considering how he joined for a fee of €13m after an initial loan, the valuation could be affordable for the Magpies.
