As you know, West Ham United’s Nayef Aguerd missed the game against Portugal in the World Cup after picking up an injury against Spain.
This is a story that France have followed closely, both because the player used to play for Rennes, but also because their national team are playing Morocco on Wednesday evening.
L’Equipe have an update ahead of the game, revealing the West Ham defender has a ‘grade 2’ tear in his thigh, as well as picking up a cold.
They then add that after missing the quarter final against Portugal, ‘he shouldn’t be able to hold his place, even if the staff will do everything’ to get him on the pitch.
However, someone within the Morocco squad told L’Equipe: “We are pessimistic.”
This seems to point to the West Ham man watching his teammates from the sidelines, hoping they can pull off yet another huge upset without him by knocking out the currently reigning World Cup champions to tee up a historic final against Argentina on Sunday.
Signed from Rennes in the summer, the Morocco international has only been able to make a handful of appearances for the Hammers in the first half of the season because of another injury picked up in pre-season.
