Several reports coming out of Spain earlier this week reported Arsenal have beaten Tottenham in the race to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.
The Gunners are set to sign the midfielder on a loan deal without an option to buy and the Euro U21 winner is already in London, along with his agent and lawyer.
His transfer to the Emirates was expected to be finalised and there were reports claiming it would be made official on Wednesday. So far, the deal has not taken shape.
Ceballos’ teammate Marco Asensio suffered a serious injury during the preseason tie against Arsenal, which could force him to miss majority of the 2019/20 season.
Asensio’s injury setback led to suggestions Ceballos’ move to the north London club could collapse.
Sport now makes it clear the delay in Ceballos joining Unai Emery’s side has nothing to do with Asensio’s injury, it’s because paperwork didn’t come through quickly enough.
Ceballos is now expected to complete his loan move to Arsenal on Thursday.
