On January 15th, West Ham United confirmed the appointment of Paco Jémez as their new assistant manager. He became the latest addition to Nuno Espírito Santo’s back room staff midway through the season.

The Spaniard started his coaching career almost two decades ago. Jémez was then a head coach throughout his career until he moved to West Ham.

Earlier this month, AS stated the 55-year-old had received multiple offers since leaving Ibiza in October 2025. He turned them down as none were convincing enough until West Ham arrived.

Nuno’s call made the difference and that was key for the coach to join him at the London club.

Jémez has appeared as a guest on Cadena Ser to discuss his a few topics about the Premier League side.

“There wasn’t much convincing to do. He told me he needed my help, and I thought about experiencing the Premier League from the inside. He values me a lot and lets me do what I think is best,” he said.

The West Ham assistant was also pressed for his take on Real Madrid parting ways with Xabi Alonso.

Alonso’s time in the Spanish capital came to an end earlier this month, after losing the Spanish Supercopa final to Barcelona.

“It doesn’t surprise me when a colleague loses his job. I wish it hadn’t happened. Xabi had a really great idea of being able to coach the best team in the world,” he says about the Basque coach’s dismissal,” Jémez explained.

West Ham appointed Nuno as their manager in September 2025, after parting ways with Graham Potter. Their results haven’t improved a lot under the Portuguese. They are now 18th in the table, five points behind 17th placed Nottingham Forest.
