Crystal Palace need centre-backs. Joachim Andersen has been sold and Marc Guehi’s future is still in doubt.

Maxence Lacroix has been linked with the Eagles for weeks now and there has been an update from Germany.

WAZ have reported today that the Frenchman’s stay at Wolfsburg is currently ‘more than questionable’ and Crystal Palace are well in contention for the centre-back’s signature.

The first round of negotiations took place and during that, Palace put forward an offer worth €14m. It was rejected by the Bundesliga side, who felt that the offer was below Lacroix’s value of €20m.

Even though the Eagles’ offer was rejected, the saga has ‘just begun’.

The report suggests that the English side will likely make a late attempt to sign the 24-year-old.

It carries a quote from former Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, in which he states that English clubs wait until the end of the transfer window before making renewed attempts for players.

WAZ believe that Crystal Palace could do just that in this case and that Lacroix’s future would then lie away from Wolfsburg.
