On Thursday, Sport reported Fulham have reached an agreement with Villarreal to sign Jorge Cuenca for €6.5m. It was also said this is good news for his former club Barcelona, who will receive a percentage of the fee from his impending sale to Marco Silva’s side.
Later that day, El Periódico Mediterráneo, a newspaper local to the La Liga side, backed up this claim. They said Marco Silva’s side are paying around €7m for the centre-back, and that the deal to take him to Fulham is on the verge of taking shape.
This has been confirmed by Villarreal sporting director Miguel Ángel Tena, and his comments are relayed by Cadena Ser.
He further adds that his side have agreed a deal with Fulham for the 24-year-old.
“Jorge trained yesterday afternoon and is already travelling to the Fulham camp. He has to pass a medical examination, but the agreement with the clubs already exists,” he said.
Cuenca is set to carry out the transfer formalities soon to complete a move to the London club.
The Spaniard joined the Yellow Submarine from Barcelona in 2020, and spent the first two seasons on loan at UD Almería and Getafe. Cuenca featured regularly for Villarreal last season, making 37 appearances in all competitions.
