Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has admitted he is determined to get back to Sporting Club de Portugal at some point in his future.

Mais Futebol cover comments from the midfielder today made on the Estrelinhas podcast in which he admits going back to his former club is on the cards.

The 26-year-old joined Sporting from Estoril Praia in 2019 and after working his way through the Under 23 team moved into the first team squad.

He went on to make 101 appearances in all competitions for the club in the following two years, scoring eight and assisting nine goals.

He eventually departed in a €47.4m deal to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022 before then moving on to Manchester City a year later.

He’s a firm member of Pep Guardiola’s first team squad and could have an important role moving forwards as the Cityzens seemingly plan for a major rebuild this summer.

That meant he got to return to his former club earlier this year as the two sides met in the Champions League’s league phase and it seems, despite defeat, that enforced Nunes’ idea to return to the Portuguese club one day.

“Obviously I want to come back, and I’ve said that several times,” he said.

“I think they [fans] know that. On top of that, after the Champions League game, the affection I felt… I had already returned to the stadium, but playing there had never happened. And the affection I felt… I was really pissed off because we lost, but I can’t explain the affection I felt.

“I’m not going to say dates, obviously, I’m not going to estimate that, but obviously I’m going to come back.”
