Tanguy Ndombele has clocked in 646 minutes from 23 minutes for Galatasaray since joining them on loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur last summer.
The Spurs loanee has been subjected to constant criticism in Turkey, due to his alleged weight problems and mixed performances, and earlier this week, we saw former Blackburn Rovers star Tugay Kerimoğlu urging the Istanbul club to get rid of the Tottenham loanee as soon as possible despite making a huge financial effort to secure his services.
On Thursday, Fatih Karagümrük knocked Galatasaray out of the Turkish Cup, and although the 27-year-old missed the tie due to an injury, this didn’t stop Yeniçağ Gazetesi journalist Sedat Kaya from piling on.
The midfielder has been sidelined with an injury for the past few weeks, during which the Turkish club were knocked out of the Europa League and the aforementioned domestic cup.
Galatasaray made a financial effort last summer by signing Ndombele, Wilfried Zaha, Hakim Ziyech and Tetê, and Kaya claims they haven’t lived up to their expectations so far.
“First Galatasaray were eliminated from the Champions League, then from the Europa League and now from the Turkish Cup,” he said.
“All they have left is the Süper Lig. Was this squad built for the Süper Lig? In those days, those who criticised Erden Timur’s transfer moves were declared traitors. They have been vindicated today. Galatasaray threw in the towel in three cups in one month.”
“Most of those who were praised when they signed are now missing. What happened to Ziyech? Where is Ndombele? Tetê is here and gone. Zaha is a constant problem. How many millions of dollars is the loss? Now we have to ask. Is this magic? Hocus pocus, we’re out of three cups!”
Kaya’s views are also echoed by former referee and commentator, Erman Toroğlu. He’s also of the belief the investement made by Galatasaray on the Tottenham player hasn’t paid off.
“Ndombele, Ziyech are nowhere to be seen, how did you transfer them? What about the money? What’s the point of being champion in Turkey after paying that kind of money? This squad was built for the Champions League, not the Süper Lig,” he told A Spor, relayed by Yeniçağ Gazetesi.
Unless Ndombele’s situation performs some sort of magic trick in the coming months, he will have to return to Tottenham, where he has a deal until 2025.
