On Tuesday, Gazzetta dello Sport were fairly optimistic about Nottingham Forest’s moves for Juventus duo Samuel Mbangula and Timothy Weah.
The newspaper claimed the Tricky Trees were trying to iron out a deal worth €25m, with Juve keen on the sales to finance their market.
TuttoSport today have a slightly differing claim. The Turin newspaper report Nottingham Forest’s initial offer was €23m, with €15m offered for the US international and €8m offered for the Belgian.
Even if Juve are interested in the sale of both Weah and Mbangula, they are weighing up the pros and cons. This is because the Bianconeri don’t want to repeat the mistake they made regarding Dean Huijsen’s transfer to Bournemouth last summer.
Like the centre-back, Mbangula is a product of Juve’s Next Gen academy. Weah has provided unique tactical flexibility under both Igor Tudor and former manager Thiago Motta, playing on the flanks, up front and also at right-back.
They understand the value that the two players provide to the squad but are considering the financial ‘treasure’ their sales can bring. Since Mbangula is a youth graduate, his sale for around €8m grants Juve total capital gain.
Weah arrived for €12m from Lille in 2023 and since most of that has been amortised, they will earn capital profit from his transfer too. Money earned from exits can help the Old Lady sign Francisco Conceicao permanently and that is why offers are being seriously considered.
The report indicates Nottingham Forest are not too far from meeting the asking price for the two players. If they do reach an agreement, the transfers can be done before the end of the Club World Cup.
