Nottingham Forest could have had January signing with little effort – Summer exit ‘seems like a no-brainer’

Nottingham Forest could have signed Chuba Akpom from Ajax in the January transfer window with a small amount of effort.

That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who believe Nottingham Forest could be back in the picture again in the summer as Ajax plan an overhaul.

The newspaper covers the situation with the Ajax striker, presenting four possible scenarios for the player and what the Dutch side may do with him.

The big question is whether they stick with him after an up and down first season that first saw him struggle but now establish himself in the team and earn positive reviews too.

He remains behind Brian Brobbey in the pecking order, though, so a decision has to be made by him and the club.

The likely scenario is that Akpom leaves, and Brobbey stays, and indeed that nearly happened in January, when Nottingham Forest were keen late in the window.

The newspaper states that if they had ‘gone ahead’ he would already be at the club and out of Ajax.

They are described as a side who have ‘plenty of money’ to do the kind of deal Ajax would want, with the Dutch side looking for a good figure as they know that Akpom could be in demand because of the home-grown rule.

They believe bids that could exceed the fee they paid for him could be ‘very plausible’ and AD state in that scenario, an exit for him is a ‘no-brainer’.

In other words, there’s deal there to be done for Nottingham Forest if they remain keen in the summer, with Ajax very much open to a sale for the right price.
