Botafogo defender Jair Cunha is considering turning down Nottingham Forest, as he is reluctant to move to the club.

That’s according to Jorge Nicola, who provides details on the situation around Nottingham Forest and their pursuit of the 20-year-old defender.

Nottingham Forest have been working on a deal for Cunha and his Botafogo teammates Cuiabano and Igor Jesus.

A deal for the latter has already been finalised but deals for the two have been moving slowly, despite an apparent strong working relationship between Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and Botafogo owner John Textor.

It had initially been thought that a deal for the trio would be easy to get over the line, largely thanks to that relationship between Marinakis and Textor.

A report four days ago indicated that there was positivity on Nottingham Forest’s side, with a Botafogo official insisting that they were advancing on deals for Cunha and Cuiabano.

It seems, though, they may have to put more effort into their talks with Cunha, as Nicola now reports that he is considering turning down the offer from Nottingham Forest this summer.

“Defender Jair is considering not closing a deal with Nottingham Forest, an English club owned by Evangelos Marinakis,” he said.

“He had advanced negotiations with Igor Jesus, Cuiabano and Jair. The deal with Igor Jesus is finalized, but Jair has been reluctant to move to the English club. In fact, Forest has increased his offer for Jair in recent days.

“Before recording this video, I spoke to one of the representatives of the 20-year-old defender, who was bought from Santos, and this agent assured me that there is still no definitive agreement between the parties. Jair is considering his next steps and his great form, especially in the Super World Cup, with Gala’s performance against PSG.

“This could make him attract the attention of bigger clubs than Nottingham Forest. Just to add to the deal with Botafogo, Cuiabano also does not have a final deal with Nottingham Forest yet, and he has been speculated about other big English football clubs.”
