Nottingham Forest and Brentford have both been linked with Real Betis’ Assane Diao for a while now.

The links cropped up in the summer but the 19-year-old winger stayed at the Spanish club, hoping that he could take his development to the next level and improve as a player.

The opposite seems to have happened and Diao’s development has stagnated, with the teenager having played only 146 minutes in La Liga.

Estadio Deportivo note that because of his situation, Diao would be on the market when the transfer window swings open in January.

Whether Nottingham Forest or Brentford come back in for the Spain Under-21s man remains to be seen, but their interest from the summer does find a mention.

The two English sides didn’t make a significant offer for Diao and the best approaches came from Porto, Feyenoord and Hoffenheim.

The player himself was the one who decided to stay put at Betis but things can now change, as his situation becomes more difficult.
