Arriving in an expensive transfer from RB Leipzig, Ibrahima Konaté took very little time to impose himself as the ideal partner next to Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool.
The France international is now widely seen as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and that’s why he is also a regular with his national team.
The Liverpool star sat down with France TV Info to talk about various subjects, including the Anfield side and the fact Jürgen Klopp will be leaving at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has only ever known the German as his manager at the club, but that will change for the next campaign when a successor will be chosen.
Regardless of who it is, Konaté doesn’t see it impacting his future at Liverpool, to whom he is fully committed for the foreseeable future.
He said: “Liverpool is Liverpool. Klopp was the one who came looking for me and got me to the level I’m at today. It will always be a legendary, exceptional club. Everyone is apprehensive, and every player is aware of that. Who will the new manager be? Will things go well, both collectively and individually?
“Because the new manager might arrive but for personal reasons, he might not like us, and you can’t stay at the club because you your career, you have your pleasures. Beyond that, there’s not really too much to worry about. Liverpool will do the work, and with what I’m doing on the pitch today, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work out.”
Since joining Liverpool for €40m back in 2021, Konaté has made 85 appearances for the Anfield side, scoring three goals and assisting another two.
