Legia Warsaw have made an attempt to try and sign West Ham United goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański in the summer window.

The 40-year-old’s contract expires in June, and West Ham have confirmed their decision to release him.

Fabiański had a spell at the Polish club earlier in his career, and they contacted him recently to find out if he’s willing to return.

Earlier this week, Legia Warsaw sporting director Michał Żewłakow said the stopper didn’t answer his call. The official has given an interview to Przegląd Sportowy Onet, where he revealed he’s now spoken to the West Ham player.

“I finally got through to Łukasz Fabiański, he answered the phone. I don’t know if Marcin Rosloń’s [former footballer turned commentator] intervention didn’t help,” he said.

The Legia Warsaw sporting director explained the Pole has ruled out a move back to his home country in the upcoming window. He has also explained the reason his club can’t sign Fabiański for a second time.

“I will dispel any doubts, Łukasz is not interested in returning to Poland. His family situation requires him to spend the next few years in England,” Żewłakow explained.

Therefore, there’s ‘no chance’ of the Hammers stopper returning to his former club after this season.

The former Arsenal man kept four clean sheets and conceded 27 goals from 16 games for West Ham this season.
