Atalanta’s Merih Demiral has ended up in the sights of Leicester City, according to a report from Italy.
Çağlar Söyüncü is one of the centre-backs currently at the King Power Stadium and his deal runs down at the end of this season.
The Turkey international is expected to leave in 2023, and this has seen Leicester look for his replacement.
According to FcInterNews, Brendan Rodgers’ side could ‘think of replacing’ Söyüncü with his compatriot, Demiral, and the Foxes option should ‘not be underestimated’ for the Atalanta centre-back.
The Serie A defender was proposed to Inter Milan in the summer and his name is linked to the Nerazzurri again due to Milan Škriniar’s contract situation, which expires at the end of the current campaign.
However, Simeone Inzaghi’s side don’t consider signing Demiral because of Atalanta’s demands.
Atalanta are starting from €40m and aim to get no less than €30m for the player.
As per the report, it is ‘easier’ for the Premier League clubs to match this figure, where Leicester shouldn’t be underestimated as an option for Demiral.
The centre-back has scored two goals from 15 matches in all competitions for the Italian club this season.
