Wolves’ Hugo Bueno has been linked with an exit from Molineux but the speculation may not be in line with the truth.
The left-back played 35 times in the Premier League last season. He came in as a replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri and individually, he had a pretty decent season.
It was enough to show that he can make the cut in the Premier League, even if Wolves faced relegation. This came after a promising loan spell at Feyenoord, where the full-back was a regular when he wasn’t injured.
Suggestions around the 23-year-old have grown in Italy this week. A deal that seemed possible may not be as advanced as first thought.
Fiorentina interest reported and denied
La Nazione – via La Viola, confidently spoke of Fiorentina’s interest in the Spaniard. They went as far as to say that talks between them and Wolves are ongoing, signalling confidence about a possible agreement.
It hasn’t taken long for denials to arrive from Alfredo Pedulla.
The journalist claims there is ‘no room for manoeuvre’ between Fiorentina and Wolves – for now. La Viola have categorically played down any interest in the defender and no talks have taken place between the clubs either.
Despite Wolves’ relegation, a move to Florence is unlikely. The report compares rumours around discussions as something similar to Inter Milan’s links with Marco Palestra, with the wing-back on his way to Chelsea.
Our take: Future could still be uncertain
Bueno has shown in his last three seasons that he can do well in a top-flight competition. A move to Serie A could be complex due to financial reasons and a stay in the Premier League would be easier.
That is what he should aim for and Wolves would be in for a significant capital gain.
They paid very little to sign him in 2019 and anything earned will be a good way to replenish their accounts.
