Juventus have no regrets over Francesco Calvo’s move to Aston Villa, with his departure simply the beginning of them starting from scratch at the club.

That’s according to Dario Pellegrini, via Tutto Juve, who has been speaking about the situation on Calciomercato.it’s TiAmoCalciomercato show on YouTube.

Calvo is the current Managing Director of Revenue & Institutional Relations at the Italian giants, having stepped up to the role in 2023 after previously returning to Juventus in 2022 as Chief of Staff.  He has also been the Chief Football Officer, reporting to the CEO.

His time at the Italian giants appears to be coming to an end, though, with reports over the last week or so stating that Aston Villa are closing in on a deal to hire him as their new CEO.

Reports in Italy have claimed that Calvo has formally submitted his resignation, although he’s refused to speak on the matter when asked about it publically. He would replace the outgoing Chris Heck at Villa Park.

The news certainly came as a surprise to Juventus, at least going by the reports in Italy, but Pellegrini reports they’re not particularly bothered about Calvo’s move to Aston Villa.

“Calvo was also a very important part of the management and of the new post-Agnelli cycle,” he said.

“He was a good communicator, perhaps the only one in all of Juventus. He tried to bring about a revolution even on his own, there wasn’t a good relationship with Allegri, Giuntoli was also chosen through him.

“It seems that his farewell was his decision, for a higher salary proposed by Aston Villa, but in Juventus from a commercial point of view more was expected. It was also an unfortunate parable, there was an agreement with ITA-Airways, but the government blew it up.

“It’s a farewell without too many regrets and also in view of the Club World Cup, an intense moment from a commercial point of view. The feeling is that Juventus wants to start from scratch, no one can consider themselves safe in all sectors.”
