Just like the English press keeps talking about Jurgen Klopp’s upcoming departure from Liverpool, the Portuguese media is also commenting on the possibility of Ruben Amorim’s potential exit from Sporting.
The Lions’ manager has been linked with the Anfield job, and there’s actually many people who believe he’d be up for that challenge.
This week, CMTV interviewed former Portugal international Diamantino Miranda, and in quotes brought by Bancada, the ex-player backed Amorim for the Liverpool job.
The coach may be in charge of Sporting since 2020 despite playing for Benfica for many years, and that time with the Eagles is believed to be a boost for him.
“He’s got the Benfica school. He went to Benfica, which is a club very similar to Liverpool. So he’ll be someone who won’t be too surprised by the winning mentality and by representing legendary clubs,” said Miranda.
“I’d be very happy for Rúben Amorim, who is an excellent person. What he has shown in Portuguese football, he deserves to be given that opportunity. If there is one, no one would begrudge him taking such a big opportunity to coach Liverpool.”
Amorim won the Portuguese League title in 2021, taking Sporting out of a long title drought, and has once again led his team to the top of the table to win his second this season.
Even though the Lisbon media once claimed that the coach would soon get interviewed by Liverpool, there haven’t been many strong reports about potential negotiations, as it’s the English press who have been insisting that he’s one of the main candidates.
