Newcastle United would want no less than €50m to sit at the table with AC Milan and discuss selling Sandro Tonali.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who cover the feasibility of Tonali returning to his former club today.
The Newcastle midfielder has sparked interest from Milan this week after admitting he reluctantly left for Newcastle in 2023 and would always leave the door open to a return.
Those words ‘sound like music’ to Milan fans, who have repeatedly called for his return to happen in the last year. They consider his sale an ‘open wound’ that needs to be healed.
Calciomercato doubt that it can happen, though, as Newcastle would want at least €50m to even sit at the table. That’s assuming they would be open to negotiating, despite all indications are that they have no intention of selling Tonali.
That figure would only be the starting point for negotiations and would be ‘clearly very expensive’ for Milan despite the Italian side being willing to spend when necessary.
They could potentially bring the figure down by including players in the deal, such as Malick Thiaw, who ‘enjoys the esteem of Eddie Howe’.
The two clubs and respective agents spoke about him last summer, but Newcastle never made a ‘real lunge’ for the German defender. That was due to Milan’s asking price, which was €35m.
They could therefore include him in a deal for Tonali to bring his price down, but whether Newcastle would allow that is debatable and the midfielder returning seems unlikely despite him leaving the door open.
