On Monday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported AC Milan’s Simon Kjær is ‘not ready yet’ for the Champions League clash against Newcastle United.
The centre-back hasn’t featured since the end of October and there is a possibility for him to be at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
That’s according to Sky Italia, who state the 34-year-old will have a ‘test on Tuesday’ to find out if he can be in the squad to face Newcastle.
It’s claimed the Serie A side will ‘try to recover him at the last minute’, so that he could at least make it to the bench.
While the Denmark international condition is still being assessed, Sky say Rafael Leão ‘will be there against Newcastle’.
A hamstring injury forced the 24-year-old to spend a month on the sidelines before the forward featured in a friendly tie at the weekend.
Leão ‘carried out all the training with his teammates’ yesterday and Sky add there is ‘no doubt’ that he will be in England to face Eddie Howe’s side. The question remains whether he will start or come off the bench.
Gazzetta dello Sport also share a positive update on the Portuguese’s fitness and add that today’s training will determine if Stefano Pioli will include him in the starting XI or on the bench.
Leão is one of Milan’s key players and his return from injury is a massive boost for the clash against the Magpies.
Gazzetta also state Noah Okafor, who has been out of action with a muscle injury since November 21st, has trained on Monday. A decision on his availability will be made after today’s session.
To sum it up, there’s ‘no doubt’ Leão is ready to face Newcastle, and a decision on both Kjær and Okafor will be made in the next few hours.
