Rodrigo Vilca joined Newcastle United in October 2020 from Deportivo Municipal, and has since been with the lower age groups of the Magpies’ set-up.

The 21-year-old doesn’t look likely to bother Steve Bruce’s selection plans much in the near future, and isn’t keen on limiting himself to U23 football. Keen to progress his career as quickly as possible, the youngster is now eyeing a move away from Newcastle, even if it’s only on a loan basis.

That’s according to Vilca’s agent Elio Casareto, who has been speaking to the Peruvian media about his client’s situation with the Premier League club.

Quoted by Futbol Peruano, the representative explained: “The Premier League is very competitive and he needs minutes in Europe, because the national team is also following him.”

Despite that, a long term Newcastle United future is still something the player hopes for, and he has a very specific role in mind for when he’s gained more experience, with Casareto adding: “The idea, hopefully, is to replace Miguel Almirón in the number ten position, but he still needs the experience of a first team in Europe to complement what he is doing.”

Time will tell if Vilca can get the loan he wants and whether he’ll be able to impress enough to return and take over from Miguel Almirón.
