Alexander Isak has been one of the standout players for Newcastle United since joining them from Real Sociedad in August 2022.

The striker managed 58 goals and nine assists from 100 games for the Magpies of which 23 goals and five assists are from this season. He also missed over 200 days with injuries and a thigh injury in September 2022 kept him on the sidelines for 107 days.

The Newcastle player started for Sweden in their loss to Luxembourg and played the full 90 minutes in their 5-1 friendly win over Northern Ireland on Tuesday. After the tie, he had a chat with the Swedish media and Aftonbladet have relayed his comments.

Isak was asked whether he received any text messages from the Newcastle United medical staff after playing the entire match against Northern Ireland, with the hint they may have been concerned.

“We always get text messages asking if everything is okay. No one had seen anything on the pitch that looked worrying, everything looked good and that’s nice,” he said.

The striker was with the national team squad while majority of his Newcastle teammates were in Dubai, celebrating their EFL Cup success. He scored for the Magpies in their 2-1 win over Liverpool in the final at Wembley.

Isak’s teammates provided him regular updates about the celebration in Dubai.

“They actually have, so I had to put my phone on mute. But it’s been fun to watch,” Isak explained.

Newcastle have ended their 70-year trophy drought, and the Swede is looking forward to the parade.

“It’ll be nice. They [teammates] haven’t been to Newcastle, so I haven’t missed that part of the city. We’ll come back and celebrate with the fans now,” he added.

“I think the parade will be incredible. It’s a bus parade and something more when you meet the fans on a big field. I don’t know exactly how many there will be, but most of the city I think.”
