Liverpool and Newcastle United may feel frustrated that Gonçalo Inácio has been so well protected by Sporting lately, with no chances for a winter transfer, but it appears that stance from the Portuguese side shouldn’t last very long.
Newspaper Record today brings a piece claiming that even though the Lions have been holding tight of all their stars this month, the situation should change entirely by the end of the season.
Sporting are fully focused on winning the Portuguese league, as they’re top of the table, and keeping their squad together is crucial to achieving that. They still need money from sales, though, so when the summer comes, some record deals are expected to be made.
The defender is currently protected by a €60m release clause, but it’s possible that Sporting will accept to negotiate that amount.
The Lions’ record of sales in a transfer window happened in the summer of 2022, when they made €118m with departures.
The aim is to make more this year, and Liverpool and Newcastle could help with that if signing Gonçalo, as they’re said to be still ‘behind him’.
