Wednesday saw the exciting news emerge that Newcastle United were interested in Nicolò Barella, currently at Inter Milan.
The midfielder is widely seen as one of the better players in his position, capable of doing everything from defending to attacking, and showed exactly how good he was throughout his club’s Champions League campaign last season.
Newcastle seemingly want him to do something similar at St James’ Park, with talk of a £50m bid potentially being on its way to Milan was discussed, but that won’t be enough, according to Calciomercato.it.
The website explain much of what has already been reported, which is that Inter aren’t interested in selling.
However, they do add a little bit, and that’s the threshold at which the Italians could start to waver, which is good news for Newcastle.
The website state that the Champions League finalists ‘would sit down at the table to negotiate the sale’ of their star midfielder for ‘no less than €80m’.
And even at that fee, it’s ‘not certain’ that they would give the green light to a transfer considering how important he is to them.
Something to keep in mind, as this is set to develop in the next few days.
