Newcastle United have made an attempt to sign Fiorentina’s Nicolás González, according to a report from Italy.
The winger was part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa América earlier this month, and is currently in Buenos Aires. He’s expected to start pre-season training at the start of August.
On June 4th, Daniele Pradè said González is “99% untransferable”. Today’s edition of La Nazione, relayed by Viola News, points that out and then provides more on Newcastle’s interest in the 26-year-old.
It’s claimed the Serie A side now have at least one offer on the table, which was presented by the Magpies, through intermediaries, a ‘few days ago’.
Last summer, Brentford offered €43m to sign the Argentina international, but a deal didn’t take shape.
The report makes no mention of the fee offered by Newcastle, but it hasn’t convinced the Serie A side as it’s way less than the one proposed by the Bees in 2023.
La Nazione state Newcastle’s offer ‘is the starting point’ and there could be movement around the South American’s future this summer. The reports suggests Eddie Howe’s side aim to sell Miguel Almirón and use those funds to make an improved offer to sign González.
