As the Brazilian media this week revealed that Newcastle United are interested in the signing of Sporting forward Francisco Trincão, we must admit it was a little weird to see the news coming from South America.

But it turns out that this information is now backed up by the Portuguese press, who adds some interesting extra bits about how this chase has been going.

According to newspaper O Jogo, Newcastle had a scout watching Sporting’s match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg of Europa League’s round-of-16.

The outlet writes that besides having liked what they’ve seen from Gonçalo Inácio, Pedro Gonçalves and Manuel Ugarte, they must also have been impressed with Trincão’s performance.

It’s said that Newcastle will ‘keep the attention’ on the winger as the summer window comes up.

In fact, the story isn’t only interesting because of the information on Trincão, but actually because the Magpies may be attentive to all those players.

Newcastle had already been linked to Inácio and Ugarte in the past, but their chase for Pedro Gonçalves seems to be completely new, albeit understandable as the 24-year-old boasts 17 goals and 10 assists in 40 appearances this season.
