Newcastle United are ‘ready to make a bid’ for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, who is set to leave the German side in January.
That’s according to Tutto Juve, who say the Magpies could satisfy Thuram’s desire to ‘sign a big contract’ away from Gladbach.
Thuram is out of contract in the summer and yet to sign a new deal, meaning he will be free to negotiate a free transfer for next summer once the January transfer window opens.
Gladbach have pretty much given up hope of him signing an extension to his current deal at this point, with assistant manager Oliver Neuville confirming as much in comments on the matter yesterday.
“I think it will be difficult for him to stay at Gladbach because if he continues to score so many goals it is certain that he will have many offers in Italy or Spain or England,” he told Radio Sportiva.
“You also have to be a bit realistic. I hope he stays here at Monchengladbach, but now he has also been called up by the French national team for the World Cup.
“It will be difficult for him to extend his contract, I hope so, but the chances are slim.”
Several clubs have been linked with a move this month, including Newcastle, who seem likely to continue spending in January to build on an impressive first half of the season.
Tutto Juve now throw them into the mix for Thuram, stating that they ‘break through’ in the race for the Frenchman and are ‘ready to make a bid’ of €11.5m for his services.
They state the forward ‘has no intention’ of signing a new deal at Gladbach and instead intends to sign a big contract with someone else, taking advantage of his contract situation to demand more from any potential buyers.
That is something Newcastle can offer him given their wealth and so they are ‘not a bad option’ for the forward at this moment in time.
