Sunday’s edition of Sport has Raphinha on the front page, and the Catalan newspaper are again pushing a potential move to the Premier League for the Brazilian.
That’s been the case for a while, but it feels like things have moved up a gear over the past week, with a transfer now looking like a genuine possibility in the coming months.
Raphinha hasn’t failed at the Camp Nou since his move from Leeds United, but he’s not been an amazing success either. Given the club’s financial problems and the potential return of Lionel Messi, the feeling is that Barcelona want to sell… and that’s where Newcastle United come in.
Eddie Howe is expected to have significant funds available to him during the next window, especially if Newcastle secure themselves a place in the Champions League.
Sport claim Newcastle have ‘made an approach’ for Raphinha and are willing to pay him more than the €12m a year he currently gets at Barcelona.
Arsenal and Chelsea are also credited with interest, and Barcelona will clearly want some kind of bidding war.
