Following recent stories from the English media claiming Newcastle United are interested in signing David De Gea, Spanish outlet AS today basically started a campaign in favour of that transfer.
Their piece brings a headline saying the goalkeeper’s arrival at St. James’ Park is ‘necessary’ due to Nick Pope’s absence.
It’s said Newcastle need a substitute who will follow in the footsteps of the Englishman’s high level and De Gea seems like the ‘safest option’ for that, because of his big experience in the Premier League.
AS feels that the Magpies and the Spaniard ‘need each other more than ever’, as the goalkeeper has been unemployed since his departure from Manchester United in the summer, looking for a project that attracts him.
It’s said it’s ‘undeniable’ that Newcastle could enjoy having De Gea playing for them, as his current ostracism ‘does not do justice’ to the many years he spent at Old Trafford.
The Spanish media has obviously been anxious to see the goalkeeper playing again, and it’s interesting that they now take the Magpies as the perfect opportunity for him in January to take over from Pope, at least for the next few months.
