Eintracht Frankfurt are likely to open direct talks with Newcastle United for William Osula soon, following the injury to Jonathan Burkardt.

That’s according to BILD. They report that Osula remains the ‘top priority’ for the January transfer window.

The newspaper reports that Frankfurt are facing an eventful winter window. The squad needs improvements and sporting director Markus Krösche is likely to be busy. The Newcastle striker sits at the top of his priorities.

He was supposed to arrive in the summer transfer window. But Newcastle’s owners blocked a late move following the drama around Alexander Isak. A complete agreement had been reached before that, though.

BILD now state that Osula is ‘still determined’ to join Frankfurt. In fact, he only wants Frankfurt. This has also been confirmed by Newcastle, according to them. It also follows a report that Osula wants to leave in January.

Eintracht have continued to maintain close contact with the player’s representatives. There have been no direct talks with Newcastle since September. This will change soon, according to the newspaper.

A deal worth €20-25m is on the table. Frankfurt would prefer a loan with an option to buy but Newcastle want a direct sale. But with such a clear commitment from Osula, a transfer is considered ‘highly likely’. Only if Newcastle’s owners sanction it, though.
