Earlier in the season, the Catalan media named Newcastle United as an interested party for Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen.
Fast forward to May and a ‘confidential’ report from Sport says the Magpies are interested in the defender, who has been used as a defensive midfielder since the start of February.
It’s claimed Newcastle are keen on signing the 28-year-old and the La Liga side are open to letting him leave in the summer window.
Barcelona want to take Real Betis’ Guido Rodríguez on a free transfer and his arrival would make Christensen ‘more expandable’.
They are also in favour of Robert Lewandowski’s exit and if he were to leave, Newcastle star Alexander Isak is the first name on their list to replace the 35-year-old Pole.
Isak has impressed for Eddie Howe’s side since joining them from Real Sociedad in 2022, and has managed 24 goals and an assist this season. Barca have liked the 24-year-old Swede for a long time, but it’s s difficult to negotiate a deal for less than €80m.
With Newcastle keen on Christensen, it would be significantly cheaper for the Catalan club to sign Isak, if the former Chelsea man is included as part of the deal.
Barca are ready to take advantage of Newcastle’s interest in the Denmark international to carry out an exchange deal, but it’s unlikely the Magpies are open to this deal.
It’s worth noting this deal would only be possible if Lewandowski leaves the Camp Nou and if not, Newcastle will have to negotiate a deal with the Blaugrana for Christensen.
