Two days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Newcastle United could make an offer shortly to sign Juventus’ Federico Gatti. It was also stated a bid of over €30m would make it difficult for the Italian club to resist.
On Thursday, we covered multiple claims from Italy explaining that the Magpies are one of the clubs to have made contact for the defender.
Journalist Alfredo Pedullà mentions Newcastle’s interest when providing the latest on the 26-year-old’s future plans.
Pedullà says the centre-back has interest in the Premier League, and among the clubs who are keen, Eddie Howe’s side are ‘in the lead’.
As of now, the Italy international has rejected the approaches made by Newcastle and other English clubs.
According to the journalist, the player has no intention of leaving Juve in the summer window, and the Turin club also don’t intend to part ways with him.
Pedullà adds Newcastle or any other team keen on signing Gatti this summer will have to make an ‘indispensable’ offer. He hasn’t mentioned the fee needed to convince Juventus.
The defender made 36 appearances last season, and is currently with the Italy squad at the Euros.
