Having signed Joelinton from TSG Hoffenheim in Germany, Newcastle United finally kicked off their summer transfer window in style with a big £40m expenditure.
Whether the Brazilian will suit Steve Bruce’s style remains to be seen, but it appears the Magpies are at least trying to add to their squad further by getting him some service down the wings.
According to RMC Sport in France, Newcastle have had a first attempt to sign Allan Saint-Maximin rejected by OGC Nice.
The Premier League side reportedly put €16m on the table for the France U21 international, but Nice, who own the player on a contract meant to keep him at the club until 2022, want €20m for his services.
That shouldn’t be too hard for Newcastle United to find down the back of the sofa, or, at least, you wouldn’t think so.
The 22-year-old was a regular for the Ligue 1 side last year, scoring six goals and assisting five times in 34 league appearances.
