Newcastle United are ‘discussing’ a move for Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha internally as they look at alternative options to Dominik Szoboszlai and James Maddison.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say Nmecha would be available for €25m, considerably less than the other two.
They explain that Newcastle have been ‘busy’ trying to sign a new number ten for their squad ‘for weeks’ and the main focus is currently on Szoboszlai and Maddison.
However, RB Leipzig are insisting that the Hungarian can only leave if his €70m release clause is met while Leicester will not sell Maddison on the cheap either.
Thus, while Szoboszlai remains a ‘top target’ for Newcastle, they are looking at other options and those in charge at St James Park are ‘discussing’ a potential move for Nmecha.
He would be the ‘cheapest’ of the three options as even including bonus payments, he would cost around €25m, significantly less than the other two.
He’s a player that the Magpies have scouted several times during this season, with the last trip to see him in the clash against Hoffenheim in May.
Whether he’s done enough to convince them to move remains to be seen but Nmecha is certainly a name being discussed as an alternative to Szoboszlai and Maddison.
