As things stand, Newcastle United are primed, should they manage to win their two games in hand on Tottenham, to return to fourth spot and therefore be in with a chance to qualify for next year’s Champions League.
Should they achieve that, the Magpies could find themselves a very attractive destination for many players, who will know they will get paid well and play in Europe’s elite competition.
Therefore, we could see some changes in the Newcastle squad, with big names, such as Paulo Dybala, coming through the St James’ Park doors next summer, as hinted at by CalcioMercatoWeb.
The Italian website explain that Eddie Howe’s project is ‘growing in tone’ ever since ehe took over, and qualifying for the Champions League would being a ‘stellar market as a dowry’.
Were that to happen, they could ‘redo their look even in the offensive areas’, which is where the ‘crazy idea’ would be to go try and sign Dybala.
That’s because he has a clause in his contract that would stand at €12m for non-Serie A sides, and an AS Roma failure to qualify for the Champions League would see him look elsewhere.
He’s not the only one they could target, as there is also a certain Rafael Leão over at AC Milan who would be entering the final days of his contract, and therefore a move ‘could clearly be made’ should he not renew at San Siro.
Just something to keep in mind as Newcastle continue their merry way in the Premier League, currently five points ahead of Liverpool and nine ahead of Chelsea (with a game in hand).
