Newcastle United have become the latest club to be credited with interest in Villarreal star Samuel Chukwueze.
The winger has enjoyed an impressive season with the La Liga side, managing 13 goals and 11 assists from 46 games, which includes a brace in his side’s 4-3 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabéu last month.
His form has seen several clubs take notice. Newcastle are one of them and they have now joined the bidding for the 23-year-old, as reported by Estadio Deportivo.
It’s claimed the Magpies ‘have in mind’ to sell Allan Saint-Maximin and replace him with the Nigeria international in the next window. The former, who has a goal and five assists from 23 games, has failed to impress for the Tyneside club this season.
Chukwueze’s deal expires in 2024 and he has no intention to renew it. The report states his exit from Villarreal ‘becomes more and more clear’ and this could please Eddie Howe’s side.
A victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday helped Newcastle to take a step closer to qualifying for the Champions League next season. Chukwueze could play in Europe’s elite club competition, if he ends up joining Howe’s side in the summer.
