AS Roma have joined the list of clubs showing an interest in Brighton and Hove Albion coach Roberto de Zerbi as they plan for life post Jose Mourinho.
That’s according to Giallorossi.net, citing Gazzetta dello Sport, who name the Italian coach as one of the ‘possible heirs’ to the Special One.
They explain that Mourinho is believed to be on his way out of Rome this summer, with his comments after the recent clash with Monza very much seen as the prelude to a farewell.
Roma seemingly feel the same way and are planning for life without the Portuguese coach and the profile ‘they like the most’ is that of De Zerbi.
He is ‘have a great experience’ with Brighton in the Premier League at present, leading them to sixth in the table and the brink of European football with an attractive and thrilling brand of football.
That has increased interest in him ahead of the summer and Roma have now put him on their shortlist alongside Thiago Motta and Ruben Amorim.
The big problem is De Zerbi’s contract with Brighton, which runs until 2026 and is ‘armoured’. What this means isn’t made explicitly clear but is likely to allude to a big release clause, which has been mentioned before now.
Either way it’s made clear it ‘would not be easy’ to get him from the Seagulls should they make an approach for him if Mourinho leaves.
