On June 20th, Calciomercato.it reported Rangers have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Cyriel Dessers after the US Cremonese star decided against joining Michael Beale’s side in the summer window.
On Wednesday, TuttoMercatoWeb reported Rangers have knocked on the Italian club’s door to take the striker on loan with an option to buy, while his club are looking to sell him. Due to this, the operation is currently ‘on standby’.
Appearing as a guest on Sportitalia’s program Sportitaliamercato, Cremonese sporting director Simone Giaccatta has confirmed Rangers’ interest in bringing the 28-year-old to Ibrox in this window.
“There is a negotiation with Rangers underway but at the moment everything is at a standstill because we are waiting for them to formulate the new proposal,” he said.
Beale saw Alfredo Morelos leave Ibrox as a free agent and his exit has seen Rangers look for his successor in the market. Dessers could be an option but Giaccatta doesn’t mention if he’s open to joining the Scottish club.
Last season, the Belgium-born Nigeria international scored 10 goals and registered three assists from 32 games for Cremonese, who were relegated from Serie A.
