Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nélson Semedo has ended up on Benfica’s radar for the summer window.
The right-back is on the front page of Monday’s edition of Portuguese newspaper Record, with ‘Nélson in sight’ written in bold.
Within the report, it’s claimed Benfica president Rui Costa has identified the Wolves player as one of their main targets for next season.
The 31-year-old has less than four months left on his contract at Wolves. He previously had a spell with the Eagles and Costa wants to bring him back for free in the next window.
Semedo was loved by Benfica supporters in the past and the president feels the summer will be the ideal time for him to return. He also believes the Portugal international would fit into Bruno Lage’s system.
The fullback played under Lage at Molineux between July 2021 and October 2022. Record claims he can reunite with the manager by returning to his former club at the end of this season.
Last month, Benfica’s Alexander Bah suffered a serious injury and is set for a long spell on the sidelines. His setback would have forced them to look at Semedo as an option for the right-back slot.
