Tottenham Hotspur were regularly named as one of Nicolò Zaniolo’s contenders in the past few windows. This also happened in January as the north London club tried signing him from AS Roma.
Spurs wanted the winger on loan with a conditional obligation while the formula didn’t seem to have pleased the Serie A side.
Antonio Conte and Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici were said to have been admirers of the 23-year-old for a long time. Reports in Italy had insisted the Premier League side were his dream club in England.
Tottenham weren’t able to seal the deal in the January window and the same happened with AFC Bournemouth. The Italy international’s desire to leave the Serie A side was fulfilled on February 8th when he completed a permanent move to Galatasaray.
Zaniolo’s mother, Francesca Costa, has admitted the player was open to joining Tottenham in the winter market. She’s explained why her son didn’t end up at the north London club when quizzed about the efforts put in by the Cherries.
“I want to clarify one aspect: Nicolò would have reduced his salary, or would have asked for the same money as Roma, for Milan or Tottenham. But those clubs have not found an agreement with the Giallorossi club,” Costa told Corriere dello Sport.
