Sunderland, Leeds United and AFC Bournemouth are all keen on signing Sevilla’s Rubén Vargas in the winter market, according to ABC Sevilla.
The winger managed three goals and four assists from 12 league matches this season. He picked up a hamstring injury in November and is expected to return next month. That hasn’t put off Sunderland, Leeds United or Bournemouth.
Earlier this month, Orgullo Biri reported the Whites are ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the transfer race. ABC Sevilla makes no mention of the latter two and report Sunderland and Andoni Iraola’s side have joined Leeds United.
The newspaper states several Premier League sides have asked about the 27-year-old’s situation. This ‘specifically’ includes Sunderland, Leeds United and Bournemouth as these clubs are the ‘most interested’ in Vargas.
The starting price considered by the English clubs is €10m. In short, Sunderland, Leeds United and the Cherries could consider making offers around this region.
Sevilla are considering selling the Switzerland international and value him at €15m. If the sale goes through in January, it could be finalised for a lower fixed fee. Antonio Cordón, the Andalusian club’s sporting director, isn’t keen on parting ways with him.
Vargas would like to stay but isn’t closing the door on a transfer. ABC claim he’ll only consider a move if the offer meets both his sporting and financial expectations.
With Sevilla open to a January sale, Sunderland, Leeds United and Bournemouth have to convince Vargas to be secure his services.
