Ajax believe defender Calvin Bassey has changed his mind and will move to Fulham this summer after all.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say the opportunity to earn considerably more than he would in the Netherlands has convinced Bassey on the move.
The newspaper explains that Ajax consider it ‘increasingly unlikely’ that Bassey will be a part of their squad next season.
They believe that a departure is now likely and have taken that into account, expecting a deal to go through in the coming weeks.
The increasing interest in him from Fulham, and the fact it has been made clear to him that the chance of playing time in Amsterdam is going to be small, he ‘seems to agree to a departure’.
Marco Silva’s side are the ‘most concretely interested’ club at this moment in time and are willing to pay €20m to sign him. With that figure, Ajax would get back the money they paid for Bassey last year so they’re also happy.
Bassey’s change of heart comes after several talks last week in which it was made clear to him that he is not first choice at left-back or centre-back.
That, coupled with the fact he can ‘earn considerably more’ at Fulham seems to have swayed his thinking and led him to abandon his initial desire to stay with Ajax.
