Aston Villa have Udinese’s Martín Payero in their list for the summer window, according to a report from Italy.
The 26-year-old left Middlesbrough to join the Serie A club in September 2023 and made 56 appearances, which includes 37 league starts.
His preferred position is in the middle of the pitch and can also be used as both an attacking and defensive midfielder. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà has a short report on Aston Villa’s interest in Payero.
According to Pedullà, the Argentine is a midfielder with ‘good technical qualities’, and this could lead to a transfer in the summer window. Unai Emery’s side like the former Middlesbrough player, who was also on Napoli’s agenda in the winter market.
The journalist adds Aston Villa director Monchi appreciates the South American’s profile and has been following him for a while. This indicates the Spaniard is leading the Premier League club’s transfer pursuit.
At this moment in time, the Villans haven’t carried out ‘in-depth negotiations’. He has the experience of playing in England from his Middlesbrough days and Aston Villa could bring him back in the upcoming window.
Payero’s contract lasts until 2027, with an option for another year. Transfermarkt values him at €6m, but Udinese would certainly demand a higher price to consider selling him.
