Earlier today, surprising claims from the European media said that Brighton & Hove Albion had suddenly got involved in the race for Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic.
It was said that even though Napoli have an agreement in principle to sign the player, the Seagulls were trying a last-minute move to land him.
It turns out that, as journalist Francesco Guerrieri now comes up with an update on the situation, he claims that Brighton actually no longer stand a chance in that race.
On X, the reporter says that the Seagulls had been interested in Samardzic about 20 days ago, and the player said ‘no’ to them.
Guerriere adds that Napoli continue with the negotiations for the midfielder, and this time it’s said there’s no deal yet.
We now shall wait for more updates to see whether Brighton are in or out of this race, as other Italian outlets should come up with more information very soon.
With Napoli in such advanced talks for his signing, perhaps the Seagulls are getting used as an argument to put pressure for a deal.
