The Uruguayan national team and their country’s media are still in shock as their 2-1 win over Ghana wasn’t enough to guarantee a spot in the World Cup’s knockout stage.

One of the players who started the match was Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, and he was replaced after only 33 minutes on the pitch.

Uruguay were winning 2-0 when the 25-year-old pulled up in pain and was replaced by Matias Vecino.

As El País writes about that situation, they point out the Tottenham player had been one of the national team’s best players in the tournament, having good exhibitions against Portugal and South Korea.

It’s claimed that following this injury issue, he’s set to be checked by Uruguay’s doctors, who should bring an official report in the ‘next few hours’.

Since the story appears to have been written while the national team were still qualifying for the knock-out stage, there’s a bigger sense of hurry to check on Bentancur’s situation.

However, with Uruguay out of the World Cup, this seems to be a problem that only Tottenham will have to care about.
