On January 19th, Sportitalia suggested that Manchester United are in pole position to sign Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.
This report surfaced a few days after Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg said the Red Devils had held talks over a potential deal for the striker.
This is now backed up by Calciomercato, who state Manchester United have requested for information about the 22-year-old.
The Dutchman’s contract lasts until 2026 and Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio had earlier stated that the €40m clause is only valid for his former club, Bayern Munich.
It’s claimed that any other club wanting to sign the frontman will have to spend in excess of €40m, and unless there are any sudden setbacks, he ‘will say goodbye’ to his current club in the summer, regardless of the price.
When discussing the interested parties, AC Milan are mentioned. The Rossoneri are keen and their technical director, Geoffrey Moncada, is crazy about the player.
Moncada is leading the Serie A side’s pursuit to secure his services and an attempt will be made to sign the Dutchman in the summer.
Zirkzee has attracted interest from abroad, where Manchester United are ‘above all’. The report have named Erik ten Hag’s side as the only interested party from outside Italy and they have requested information about the Bologna star.
