You might have heard it whispered on the grapevine somewhere, but Barcelona like Diogo Dalot and would like to sign the Manchester United defender.

The main attraction has been that his current deal expires in June, even if the Red Devils have an automatic option to extend that by a year, which we all know they will trigger.

That only delays the issue for another 12 months, however, meaning that Manchester United, if they do want to keep Dalot around long-term, will need to give him a new contract.

As things stand, he is the starting right-back under Erik ten Hag, who appreciates the offensive abilities the Portuguese player offers, but with all the talk of the Old Trafford side wanting a new player to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, questions are being asked.

That’s what Sport are reporting, claiming that the attention being placed on Denzel Dumfries in the media when it comes to Manchester United’s interest could ‘push Dalot closer to Barça’ should the signing take place.

Barcelona have already reached out to the Portuguese defender’s camp, and it’s stated he will ‘talk with Manchester United in the next few weeks to discuss a renewal’.

Should they not come to agreement, he will ‘clearly put himself own the market’, and ‘if the price is attractive’, the La Liga side could come in.

This means that Dalot ‘is clear that he will only continue if he keeps the role he has this season, with total presence in the starting XI’.

Basically, if Erik ten Hag cannot guarantee him that and decides to bring in someone like Dumfries, then the Portugal international will look elsewhere.
